The digestive system : 

The digestive system helps in digestion and absorption of food. Which we eat and with the elimination of the  undigested and unabsorbed residue. The digestive system is composed of the alimentary canal, which extends from the mouth to the anus and of certain accessory organs.

Its organs : 

Alimentary tract :  

  • a) Mouth
  • b) Pharynx
  • c) Oesophagus
  • d) Stomach
  • e) Large intestine
  • f) Small intestine
  • g) Rectum and anal canal

Large intestine has 8 (Eight) Parts :

  • 1) Caecum  with vermiform appendix
  • 2) Ascending colon 
  • 3) Transverse colon
  • 4) Descending Colon
  • 5) Sigmoid Colon
  • 6) Rectum
  • 7) Anal canal
  • 8) Anus

Small intestine has three parts :    

  • 1) Duodenum
  • 2) Jejunum
  • 3) Elium

Accessory organs :   

1) Various gland – Six Salivary glands 

2) Parotid gland – two

3)   Submandibular gland – two 

4) Pancreas

5) Liver and the biliary tract.
